Chilly Chili - 12/2/12

Don't let the name fool ya. The weather may be chilly but the chili will be hot as the TCT will have it's annual Chilly Run on December 2nd at Canoe City in Leavettsburg starting at 11am. One last chance for all you canoe and kayak "nuts" to get out on the Mahoning River before our official season ends. We will get everything set up for the chili feast first and then head up to Swift Park for the 3.6 mile cruise back to Canoe City.
I'll be making a pot of mild chili (woman and children have to eat my chili ) and making some beer bread. We will need some other chili makers, bread and cookie bakers, and snack bringers. Bring a gas or propane stove to keep the hot things hot. If you won't be paddiling you can still come out and help with the shuttle, set up the feast, keep the fire going, clean the tables, stir the chili, and help us out of water when we're done! Thanks in advance for that help.
On a safety note, it will be cold water rules of course. If you don't have a wetsuit, dress in warm, light layers and bring extra cloths. No cotton, no carhart type suits.
Any questions, just give me a call.

Steve and I are planning to bring hot chocolate/cider mixes and a propane stove for hot water, cookies and corn bread. I think corn chips too. Steve's thinking of making chili. (It will be hot). I will be eating the mild chili and/or sloppy joes!:18:

Great ! Looks like we will eat well. I'll have chili, Patty and Rich will bring chili and Steve can make the hot chili. Corn bread won't go to waste if 2 people make it and it looks like we will have chips too.
I really don't know how many to expect, but with relativity warm weather I would think about 25 people.
See y'all tomorrow!!

Planning to be there. Will bring some fresh homemade applesauce from Macintosh apples and try to keep it warm.

Hot Homemade Applesauce

How could I resist, I took the first 4 hours off of work to come, see you tomorrow. Crash is weather dependant.

Talked to ED at 9 am, and we still are ago for today. Might get wet, but we will see how ot turns out.

The electric might be turned on, as I asked for it when I filled out the sheet for the use of the park.

What a great event!!!
Thank you to all who came and overcame rain and wind for a great paddle and meal. Thank you to all who brought chili, Sloppy Joes, HOMEMADE apple sauce and tons of chips & cookies and other snacks. Thank you to Jim Boz for starting the fire and Bruce for the use of the easy up test. Or was it Steve's, I am not sure but thank you.
Thank you to Don & Judy for inviting Frank from the Trumbull County Commissioner office. Also for inviting their friends with the pirate ship. With working canons as they fired them; it gave all of us on the water a good wake up call.
Also a big thank you to Zack Zvett from the Metro Parks for the use of the building with the weather we had.
We had about 40 people over for the meeting and picnic.
Had 16 boats ( 18 people, 4 canoes & 12 Kayak) go from Thomas Swift park down to Canoe City and were joined by Patty & Rich Allen and Katie from the Mill Creek parks at the confluence of Eagle Creek & the Mahoning River making 18 Boats total. (5 Canoes & 13 Kayaks for a total 21 people paddling)

Thank you to John Paul for great notes of the last meeting & Patty for the treasury report during the meeting to make our 4 for the year.
I said it before and I will say it again, our strength is our number and showing at club trips. Look at all the food we had and paddlers on a day were weather wasn?t the greatest.
Thank you again to everyone who helped!!!!
Mike Danko
