Mahoning River - Newton Falls

1 Attachment(s)
I am relatively new to kayaking. I have been taking some short trips on the Mahoning. On Sunday, I went to Rotary Park in Newton Falls, and paddled upriver for about 4 miles, before turning around and coming back. At one point (just down river of mile marker 3), I had to drag / scoot my kayak over thick branches / tree trunks. There was no path around it. The trees did not look like they had recently fallen.

There were other spots with trees down, but all had paths where they could be navigated.

I took one picture of the blockage and attached it to this post.

Welcome to the Mahoning River.
That is the biggest down side to our home river, our tree's falling.
July 4th weekend I made it From Foster Park down to Rotary park. There were a lot of hair pin turns and tight spots for small kayaks.

between mile marker 2-3 are the worst section. Right after three is a portage I found easy. After that is was clear sailing.

I try to cut up the tree's and keep a path, but my chain saw is still down after I dropped in the river AGAIN.

Look down stream of the dam. Between the dam and Mile Marker 7 is a land mine of trees with no way around two jams.

The down side of the Mahoning River.

Get a chance go to Thomas Swift park and go up stream. Very Nice and scenic.

My favorite parts in That area our Swift park to Canoe City -roughly 3 miles.
Canoe City to Packard- roughly 5.5 miles.
