Canoe/Kayak Liveries

Ok, so I did a search of "canoe liveries" and only got a post from a user named Jenna. I was hoping someone could list the closest ones so me and my boys can try out some kayaks, when the weather breaks. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

Is the one at Grand River the only one? Is there still that one that is a restaurant as well right by the side of the road? Was it on 422?????

Liveries

I'm not sure where you are, so these may or may not be close...

Camp Hi on the upper Cuyahoga near Hiram rents canoes and kayaks for trips on that river.

Crooked River Adventures in Kent does the same.

Stark Parks rents canoes and kayaks at Walborn Reservoir near New Baltimore (also at Sippo Lake in Canton)

The Grand River Canoe Livery (I've never used them): http://grandrivercanoe.com/

You can rent canoes and kayaks at Presque Isle up in Erie, PA.

I'm sure there must be places on Pymatuning Reservoir also, but don't know of any first hand.

Hope this helps.

I've heard that Outdoor Recreational Equipment on Market Street allows customers to demo boats on Fridays during the summer at Berlin Lake. But call to confirm that.

There is also a place that sells kayaks in Franklin, Pa on the Allegheny. Don't remember the name. I'm just guessing that they would let potential customers try different boats.

There are liveries on the Clarion, but they seem to rent mostly canoes. Not sure whether they rent kayaks.

Sorry I can't be more specific.

Thanks for the replies. I'm in Girard, Ohio. Probably gonna try the Grand, or Camp Hi. Doesn't seem to be anything closer.

Also gonna plan a trip to the Mohican this summer.

canoe rental

Check out...cfcanoe.com
It's in Canal Fulton on the Tuscarawas.
A bit of a drive, but it might be worth it.

Looks like something worth visiting, thanks.

I drove past the one on 422 today, on the Cuyahoga river. The sign still says RW, but after doing some searching online I think it was called the Iron Horse Saloon. It didn't look like it was still operating, and the phone number had been disconnected.

Does anyone know if this place closed permanently or just for the season?

If you are talking about the restaurant/ bar/ rental place beside the bridge over Rt 422 on the Cuyahoga River, its a soap opera. Annually or every other year it changes hands and a new fool attempts to operate it. Give it time and a new owner will have it open. The club often paddles down from the Geauga Co. Park on Rapids Rd to the place and sometimes stops for a bite to eat before paddling back up stream to the park. No one seems to be able to keep it open long.

It seems like it would be a good place to make money. Restaurant right on the river, in a somewhat scenic/natural environment. Guess they must not get enough people to make the drive out there. Hope someone opens it up again, and figures the puzzle out.
