Super Trip

I was wondering if the club has ever done a super trip in the past.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan looks amazing to kayak.

In the 10 years that I've belonged to TCT, the most distant club trip that I recall was to Pine Creek in north central Pennsylvania.

Occasionally club members do farther flung trips on their own: A couple club paddlers traveled to the Boundary Waters several years ago; one person did a very long stretch of the Allegheny (can't recall the distance, but it was long) on his own; one couple traveled to the Greenbriar River in West Virginia earlier this year and the same couple travels to paddle the Middle Yough. And one member and his brother did the Grand Canyon several years ago.

Anyone: Have I missed other trips that were a long way from home?

I try to do one trip a year out of the area if my health permits. Several to the Boundary Waters, twice to the Green River in Utah. A 2 week dory trip thru the Grand Canyon (I was just a passenger on a commercial trip).

I spent 5 days in the Adirondacks this spring. It was after I joined but before I actually paddled with the club for the first time.

Thanks for the responses! I like hearing of places others have gone. Never heard of the Boundary Waters before. It looks amazing!

We got a locking systems for the kayaks so we are more comfortable staying overnight with them somewhere. Looking for a grand adventure for next summer. Just wish this darn thing called WORK would get out of the way!

Rio Grande

Twenty years ago I did a five-day, outfitter-supported camping trip on the Rio Grande in the Big Bend region; about 40 years ago a buddy and I did a four-day canoe camping trip on the North Fork of the Flambeau River in northern Wisconsin. On the last night a bear managed to reach our food that we hung in a tree, leaving only a can of Spork (Canadian version of Spam) for us to eat and facing 16 miles of paddling to the take out.

On Labor Day weekend for the past however many years, a loose collection of people from various clubs in the Mid-Atlantic states gather near the New River to paddle parts of it and surrounding rivers.

Places we've paddled -K & C

K & C were primarily hikers but both of us owned canoes and paddled occasionally even before we married. After we got our 10' Prodigy's in 2011 we probably spent more time paddling than hiking. Our "hiking" vacations turned into "hiking AND paddling" trips as we started to haul the kayaks with us. This thread started me to think about distant places we've paddled. Some with our kayaks and some with rented canoes. Here's some trips that came to mind...

Places we've paddled both flat and moving water.

---one memorable trip---
Green River, Mammoth Cave _Kentucky
Reelfoot Lake _TN
Mingo NWR _Missouri
Cypress Creek NWR _Illinois

Grayson Lake _Kentucky

Okefenokee Swamp NWR _Georgia

Pocomoke River (tidal) _Maryland

Blackwater River _Florida

Boundary Waters (4 day trip) _Minnesota

Bufalow River _Arkansas

Killarny Provincial Park _Canada

Ken, if you had to pick one from the list, which one stands out as the most extraordinary?
