Photo posting questions

As best I can tell, in order to post a photo, this site says it has to be no more than 19k in size. I guess there was a reason for this (dial up connections?) but that's the size of a thumbnail image which means no clarity. The photo editors that I have will not let me save down anywhere near that size even at the lowest possible quality settings.

When I view a photo posted here it is very small and a double click only increases it a tad and is still low quality.

Is there any way to add higher resolution photos or is this just the way this site was designed?

How did jimbo scan and post a photo that shows up large on my screen?

Any advise? KenM

Photos posted in User Albums are limited to something like 97K for each image.

I believe the 19K file size limit for images is when they are attached to messages. I don't know how many 19K images can be posted to one message.

Just resize the larger number (usually the width) to 600 and then try uploading. See if that works for you.

comment...Well this worked but yeilds a very small low res photo.

test photo 2

this was a full res photo 2888kb. I picked the original photo. After downloaded here it was cut down to about 20k.

test 3 a pdf file of 1 mb

will not download. reports that it exceeds 19k

I just looked at the resolution of the picture. It is 382 x 215. Are you sure you are resizing by pixels?

KenM 09-25-2014 04:46 PM

sizing by pixels ?

Is there any other way to re-size other than by pixels?

I used Canon software to reduce the original hi-res photo to the lowest resolution it offered. It reports that the new lo-res photo is now sized to 600 x 338 and 78k. Another program shows the same size.

So when I "attached" this test file it changes to 382 x 215 and 20k size ? Confusing.

Thanks for your suggestions. I am usually pretty adept at stuff like this but this particular site is a challenge for me. I will have to experiment some more.

So see above #2 test photo above. It appears this site re-sizes automatically to a very low-res (approx 20k). Apparently you can't attach anything larger for more detail. Hummm...lets attach a pdf...

test #3....Nope. any pdf over 19k will not download.

test 4....well, yes, the only way to add a somewhat better photo is to add it to a photo album. That gives you a 97k photo.

Sorry, I thought you meant the pictures for the albums. I didn't realize you were talking about attachments on messages. I changed the settings a little. Give it a try and let me know how this works for you. If I need to do further adjustments to the attachment settings, let me know. Also, don't resize your picture. The code that runs the website will automatically adjust it. They say to resize your own if there is distortion in the image after the code resizes it. Just try to attach some images without resizing and see if this works for you. Let me know either way, I can do more adjusting.

original 2.9 mb_2448x2448_photo of map_re-sized automatically_could be marked map for directions------note----to print---double click image and print (a single click only lets you veiw photo).

pdf file 1.04 mb mill creek__marked map and scanned as pdf

pdf file 2.02 mb cave run_file of paddle routes in KY

photo of kayaks on lake_full size as downloaded_ still kinda fuzzy do to lo-res settings BUT better now as they equal photos in albums

pdf of photo_a photo "prnted" or saved as a pdf allows best quality because it over rides the jpg settings but is a pain to do this.
