9-24-23 Mahoning River

French Creek-Canceled Due to Low Water
Been watching the water levels all week and they just keep dropping. As of Friday afternoon the level was down to 1.71 ft. I am going to move the paddle to the Mahoning River.

When-Sunday September 24th
Where- Lovers Lane Cemetery 325 Lovers Ln NW, Warren, OH 44485
GPS 41.24034252176507, -80.86462609226702
Time Noon
Class I Rapid (Lovers Lane Rapid)
Distance- 5 Miles

This will be the first time we launch from Lovers Lane Cemetery. The put-in is very primitive and has a semi steep hill to get down, but it is very easy. There is very little parking at the put-in so we will have you drop off your gear & Passengers and head straight to Packard Park and wait for everyone else. I will be the last to arrive at Packard Park and then we will shuttle ourselves back to lovers lane. I will have maps to Packard Park from Lovers Lane.

This Section is Jessica and myself home section. We paddle this section alot and really enjoy it. Less than a 1/4 mile from the put-in is lovers lane Rapid, an easy class I Rapid. After that the river widens up and slows down, but current does pick back up as we will paddle past the Bald eagles nest and The Otters Den by the old Copperweld Steel.
We will get to use the new Packard Park ramp at the take out that has plenty of parking around the ramp.

Nice Paddle

K & C enjoyed this paddle. A nice cool fall day. I was impressed with how clear the river was in this stretch. We could see the bottom at 3-4 ft depth.

There was a bit of an occasional light drizzle but not really enough to put on a jacket.

Thanks to Mike for suggesting this section---KenM
