Little Beaver Creek 4-29-12

Sunday April 29th we will meet at 10:30 am at Spurcevale.

We will do the section of the Little Beaver Creek from Sprucevale down to the Ohio River. Unlike last year this no fear of to much water, I hope to have enough to made this run a go.
Sprucevale is part of the Beaver Creek State park is also known as the Group Camp grounds or
the Primitive camping area.
I could not find a exact address, but it is on Spruceville Rd/ County Rd 428, The GPS location is 40.70586, -80.580351
It is very close to the Equestrian Camp. The address for this camp is
12816 Sprucevale Road
East Liverpool, OH 43920

Our take out is at a park on the corner of Calcutta Rd and Midland Rd in PA. Here is a nice ramp for easy take out, restrooms and a pavilion.

Please pack a lunch as we will stop near grimms bridge for lunch and relax for a few.
This trip is around 11 miles on the water. It has several small class 1 rapids that is a blast to paddle threw. There is one Class 2 rapid at fredricktowns. The easiest way around is to the right bank.

The lowest I am willing to paddle this section is 3ft, I would love to do it between 4 & 5 ft.

As of Monday the creek is 3.32, I hope it keeps rising

mfdanko99 04-26-2012 04:16 PM

As of Thursday at 5pm the level is 3.05, not looking good, but I am hoping for more rain.
Mike

If we can not run the Little Beaver Creek I two back up plans.
The First is the Mahoning River from Loweville to Covert bridge.
or the Shenago from West Middlesex to RT 208 (Which the club is not doing this year)

More detail to come,,, please rain!!!

We had 1/2 rain today and are supposed to get more saturday. I consulted the river gods and they predict a creek level of 3.8 to 4ft. They can't be wrong.

I thought of Sunday when it poured today at work.

mfdanko99 04-28-2012 01:01 PM

Well it's Saturday the 28th at 2pm The levelis 3.03. So far I say lets roll, plus when I look on radar there is showers in that area so I hope it will come up.

With the level on the low side, and we paddle expect to bump and scratch your way down the creek in area's. once we get past Fredricktown it will be a little easier due to the north fork joining.

I might be a little crazy, but lets do it. All show up at 10:30 am at sprucevale and we can make choice then if needed.

See ya tomorrow
