Class I Rapid's

I hope the fall colors are in full swing for this trip. This section is my favorite fall paddle, as you leave west middlesex it gets really secluded really quick and you really don't see any signs of civilization until Pulaski.
If we are lucky maybe the great Pumpkin will bring candy to all good paddlers (Specially Canoe's)
Please post or call if you are coming or have any questions
Mike Danko
PS
If the weather is really nice and warm for the trip we will make a game day decision on extending the trip to McQuiston Boat Launch on Nashua Rd making the trip about 9 miles

Hi Mike, I'm planning on coming. Not gonna have a skirt but I'm wearing my wetsuit for warmth. Looking forward to this section, I live just 10 minutes away.

I will be there no matter what the weather is like and make a game day decision
Mike

Another Great Day on the River!

Many thanks to Mike Danko for leading a group of six paddlers in two canoes and four kayaks on the Shenango River fall colors trip from West Middlesex to Pulaski. Cloudy skies and the forecast of afternoon rain likely kept attendance down, but we nevertheless enjoyed a nice run on a very pretty section of the river. Although there was not a great deal of color on the trees, we did see several bald eagles (or maybe the same one multiple times), an osprey, several kingfishers, and an impressive flock of about 12 wild turkeys that flew noisily across the river in front of us.

We had plenty of dam-controlled water with the Sharpsville, PA, gauge reading 2.6. Water temperature was 61 degrees. There were enough class 1 rapids and stretches of up tempo current to keep things interesting, but we are happy to report no incidents of carnage. Mike and J.P. ran the rapid just below the take out because it’s hard to pass up. We were off the water by mid afternoon before the rain began to fall in earnest.

Special thanks to Bob Danko who came to help with the shuttle. Paddlers were Brenda Walko, Diane Harman, Jim Keenan, new member Fred Romeo, Mike Danko, and J.P. Tolson. It was another great day on the river!

Thank you JP for the write up and all who attended
It was a great day

I missed seeing the osprey, or maybe I saw it but didn't recognize it!

JPTolson 10-29-2021 08:25 AM

Osprey

There was an osprey that flew off its perch at the same time as the bald eagle flew off its perch when our group spooked them at some point during the first half of the run.
