Tionesta Creek Camping

UPDATE ! THUR APR 26 ! CANCELLED DUE TO WX! UPDATE: WED APR 25 ! CHANGE OF PLANS ! MEET TIME AT HENRY'S MILL BRIDGE IS NOW 10AM At the chili paddle, JimBo had said he was planning the Tionesta Creek camping trip for April 28 & 29. Unfortunately, JimBo has decided to part ways with TCTC. As I was hoping to do this trip, I scheduled time off from work around those dates. In light of this situation, I am now offering to lead this trip, if there are indeed others interested. This past Thursday, I took a long ride up into the forest to do some recon for the trip, and this stream truly does wind through a most serene section of the Allegheny Forest. The trip would be dependent on water level and weather. This is a primitive camping trip. I know the club has Beaver Creek planned for the 29th, but I'm somewhat set to the date because of work. If you would be interested, please reply here on the site. If you have questions, give me a call (724-601-9801) , or e-mail me at MR272@hotmail.com.

I would be very interested.

I've heard from a few more folks, and I've even been able to get Jimbo to reconsider; so he will be helping show us the way of the Tionesta valley. I will be reposting on FB pages in the next few days as well. Keep your ears open for coming details, and feel free to give me a call.

The extended forecast is looking good. Tentative plan will be to meet at Henry's Mill Bridge along Rt 666 at 9am on Saturday (4/28) morning to drop off boats & gear. Then drivers take cars down to K-ville, and hopefully all fit into one vehicle for the shuttle back up river. Camping will be at Logans Run, as done in the past, and take-out will be Sunday (4/29) at Kelletteville.

KenM 04-23-2018 04:16 PM

Is there room for one more tent? Or has this trip filled up?

CHANGE OF PLANS ! MEETING TIME CHANGED TO 10:00 AM

Under the advisement of fellow paddlers that have done Tionesta before, and one such person that ran it last weekend, we will meet at 10AM to unload at Henry's Mills. We will then shuttle to Kelletteville to drop cars, and then return to launch. This will hopefully allow time for some of the morning coolness to burn off, and not have us arriving at camp too darn early.

We have also discussed possibly leaving a vehicle around the half way point, possibly at Minister Creek, in the event of any emergency, as the water is still rather cold.

Ambridger 04-26-2018 09:28 AM

UPDATE ! Thur Apr 26 ! In light of the forecasted cold / rain ... Jodi and I are no longer going to do this trip. With that said, I understand there are folks who may indeed still be willing to go, so I have contacted jimbo and he will now be taking over this trip. I make this decision with a heavy heart, as I was very much wanting to do this, and had invested time and money towards doing so. I hope those who do go have a wonderful time, and I look forward to seeing some pictures.[/COLOR]

I was getting my food ready. I was hoping it would be a bit warmer also, or at least dry, but was planning to go. Might have lost the window to do the Tionesta now? What a crappy spring. Only a handful of warm spring days in two months... and some were too windy to paddle. Bummed.

Ambridger 04-26-2018 05:09 PM

10:30 it is. I might sleep there this evening if I can gather my things together in time--I'll be out all week doing this trip and whitewater through next Sunday. Cheers to good weather & retirement!

KenM 04-29-2018 07:32 AM

from Ken

Erin,

Glad you can make it. With the 10:30a meet time I will most likely drive over Monday morning. It's about a 3 hour drive for me...probably about the same for you. Henrys Mill is about 30 minute drive away so even with a late morning start we should still have a leisurely paddle. Camp is about 11 miles.

Now to put my gear back on a pile.

Ken

April Camping with sun!

We had great spring trip on this pristine creek, windy Saturday with a low in the 30's at night and a perfect Sunday. Water level was just ok with no walking. Made a new friend, Erin a experience paddler and camper and it was great to have her along. Thanks Ken for helping out using the shuttle van, nice set up. Missed all that tried to make the trip on the weekend.
