Conneaut Creek 4-7-23

Grand River Cancelled due to higher than normal water levels
I was hoping for some rain but we got a little more than what we needed to keep the Grand River at a nice level; But we are in luck as another hard to catch Creek is at a great level and dropping.
Conneaut Creek is at a nice level as of Friday night and slowly dropping. My Paddle zero is 2 ft and as of Friday night it is 3.74 ft.

Class 1+ Rapids
Conneaut Creek has been a State Wild and Scenic River since 2006. TCT last paddle this creek in 2022 at 2.57ft. This is a hard to catch creek with beautiful scenery and enough class 1 + Rapids to keep it very fun and interesting. For the 10 mile paddle we will have a pothole filled 3.5 mile shuttle but it is worth it.
Hope to see ya on Conneaut Creek.

I plan to be there. Besides all the potholes, I remember a lot of mud on those wet shuttle roads. But, as Mike said, it’s a beautiful creek with lots of class 1 action and well worth the bumpy and muddy shuttle

I'm in on this one. I've got room on my trailer if anyone wants to carpool from Hubbard.

Boat is loaded on the car. The plan is to drive up in the morning.

Trip Review

What an amazing day on Conneaut Creek.
We had 11 paddlers (8 Kayaks & 3 Canoes) make there way down the creek.
Many class I and Class I+ rapids to keep things interesting and fun.
We were lucky and had lunch right across from a bald eagles nest. Ed Rigby had binoculars that helped us see them in the nest.

After lunch the wind picked up and made the Canoes work harder but still a great trip.
Weather was clear and in the high 40's. Water level started at 2.97 ft and when we finished it was 2.58 ft. Conneaut Creek was dropping fast. Glad we got to paddle it while it was run able.
Afterward a group stopped for dinner at Kay's place for great food and company.
Thank to all who came
Mike Danko

Besides a big heap of gratitude for trip leader, Mike Danko, special thanks are also in order for club members Jodi Vallecorsa and Bob Danko. They did not paddle, but both ran the shuttle which meant that none of the paddlers had to bum a ride back to the put in at the end of the trip. Jodi also took lots of photos including this group shot of the paddlers plus Bob.
