Shenango River, West Middlesex to Pulaski
Lets meet under the bridge in West Middlesex on Sunday at 10:00am and shuttle the trucks to the take out. |
Sunday it is on the Shenango river, see ya there
Mike Jerry I believe you and billie should be ok, it is a little over 5 miles |
A big thank you goes to Jim Bozdog for putting this trip together.
The Canoes won this battle with four canoes and 1 kayak. Billie Lyda the brave and solo kayaker Jerry Lyda, Jim Bozdog, John Paul Tolson, Jessica & Mike Danko paddled Canoes. We had great weather and a really nice current. USGS gauge in Sharpsville was 2.36 ft @ 179 CFS. Also thanks to Jim for an idea. He was talking about another access point down river. So Jessica and I took a drive to see if we could find it after the paddle. WOW we hit GOLD!! We found a new launch that was completed in September of 2015. With lots of parking and a really nice ramp. McQuiston Boat Launch 1071 Nashua Rd Edinburg PA 16116 According to Map my Run .com, from Pulaski to the new launch is 3.8 Miles That would make a trip from West Middlesex to the McQuiston just a hair under 10 miles. As West Middlesex to Pulaski is just about 6 mile. From the New launch to the Millennium Boat Launch that we have used in the past it is 4.2 Miles. Next year we will set up one or two paddles using the new launches. Another new run could be Pulaski to Millennium which would be 8 miles I will look into another take out in New Castle so we can do a paddle from the new launch or use it as a take out from West Middlesex. Nice find Mike. Next fall lets do West Middlesex to McQuiston as the Fall Color Run on October 23, 2016

Scenic Shenango Serenity
Thanks to Jim B. for providing an excuse not to rake leaves on a splendid autumn day by organizing a trip on the Shenango. Though quite a few leaves had already fallen, it was still a beautiful run, and we had a decent river level. A few photos are posted in User Albums.

Thanks for the pics. The smallest and biggest canoe in the club, what a contrast.

Good to see you're taking pictures again JP. Unfortunately you may have to revise your canoe to kayak count. It seems Jerry was using a kayak paddle which, in all probability, should negate his canoe usage and impose a penalty. Perhaps Ed Rigby can clarify how this should be tallied.
