Cuyahoga River Hiram

Cuyahoga River: Russell Park to Camp HI
Trip Leader Mike Danko

When- July 26th

Where- Eldon Russell Park 16315 Rapids Rd, Burton, OH 44021

GPS 41.421847,-81.165071

Time- 11 am

TCT will be making a return to the upper Cuyahoga river for the first time since I been in the club.

We will have everyone meet at Russell Park and unload. Then all drivers will go down to Camp Hi Canoe Livery (maps will be given). Once all at Camp Hi TCT will pay for the drivers shuttle back to Russell Park threw Camp HI. (THIS IS THE ONLY SHUTTLE THE CLUB IS PAYING FOR).

Once on the water we will have about a three mile paddle before we will stop and have lunch at the Iron Horse Saloon.

After lunch we will finish with a 7 mile paddle down to Camp Hi.

The Upper Cuyahoga River is a state scenic river with current that averages 1-2 miles an hour. This section is a flat water river with a small wave train at Hiram Rapid. Great trip for all skill levels!!!

Please email me or call me to let me know how many to expect. I have to make RSVP at the Iron Horse Saloon, by July 20nd

Ken and Cheryl are planning to attend.

This is a favorite paddle of ours but we haven't done it yet this year. It's a great place for birding although I wouldn't expect to see much this time of year, day or with a number of paddlers. As you may know this section of the Cuyahoga has a very slow current. It drains a large area of bottom land "sponge". One year with water gage at about 1.7 ft I measured a current of .3 mph but at the present level (Thursday morning) of 2.3 ft (going down) we may see it as high as .5 mph !! There is a 7 mile portion of this trip with no man-made anything to be seen. Always a nice trip. -Ken

Last minute Ed here. I did all the right work and said all the right words so I'm allowed to go canoeing Sunday. Want to do this trip because I haven't done the section past Rt422.
