Class I Riffles

Please come out for a fall color run on French Creek. We will meet Sunday Oct. 10th at 11 am at the Shaw’s Landing Fish and Boat launch south of Meadville PA. This will be roughly an 8 mile paddle. We will unload and shuttle the cars to Carlton. We will paddle the first section from the launch to Cochranton, PA. This first section is much like a slow moving lake with deep water and some cottages. Just before Cochranton there is a fun little swift water that makes for a little fun before snack time. We will then paddle into little sugar creek, under the railroad bridge for a nice break and lunch. After some food and fellowship we will paddle the second half of our trip. This section of the creek changes a lot from the first half. Getting a little shallower with fewer cottages. We will take out under the bridge in Carlton. Hope to see you on the water.

I will be there. It is almost the middle of October and there will be summer like conditions.

Hope to see everyone today. Looks like GREAT weather.
I'll be solo today as Linda, Lora, Livi and Nathan are all in NYC for the weekend.

Great day even better weather!

We had an AMAZING day on French Creek today. We had 8 boats, 5 kayaks and 3 canoes. We met at Shaw’s landing and shuttled the 5 drivers down to Carlton. Thanks to New member Dirk for shuttling us, then bike shuttling himself. We had amazing weather for Oct. with the leaves just staring their change. The water leave was a little higher then normal which made the paddling very pleasant. We completed the first leg of our Journey from Shaws Landing to Cochranton in a little over an hour. Everyone made a clean run through the little Rapids and pulled into little sugar creek for lunch. We were able to walk up to the Cochranton fairgrounds where they were conducting a horse show and use the Porta Johns. After lunch we hit the river again and immediately saw a beautiful bald eagle. There was no low water in the second half of the trip like we’ve encountered in the past due to the higher water level. The rest of the trip was sunny and beautiful we all reach the take out under the Carlton Bridge. Thank you so much to everyone that came out and enjoyed this beautiful October day.
