Lake Wilhelm Outing June 23, 2019

Sunday, June 23rd 2019 at 10 AM
Lake Wilhelm at Goddard State Park in Mercer County, PA

We will gather at Launch Area 3 between 9:30 and 10:00 AM. No shuttle will be involved so we want to depart about 10 AM. We will be going on a round trip heading north to start.
*This is a flat water paddle so it will be excellent for all skill levels including beginner and first timers so please invite them all to join us. Some kayaks and canoes are available for rent at the lake marine concession.
*We will be traveling about 6 miles total. Binoculars and cameras will help. We should see bald eagles, ospreys, cormorants, great blue herons, Canada geese, and various ducks, kingfishers, hawks, seagulls and crows at the least.
*Directions are easy. Take I-80 to I-79 north, Go north on I-79 two exits, Turn left on Route 358, Just across the bridge you will bare right (Brown sign for Goddard State Park), Follow this road to crossroads, Turn Right and follow to the lake. Launch Area 3 will be on the left after crossing the causeway, Turn into Launch 3 and go boat launch.
*Couple of extra things are:
*Goddard State Park has (I my humble opinion) the nicest bike trail in NW PA. It is a 12 mile loop around the lower lake and runs right by the put-in. This trail is paved and has curves and hills and bridges going thru fields and woodlands. If you like to bike maybe bring bikes along also for a double outing.
*We will discuss that day to either go to the Lake Wilhelm Winery or Grantham’s Landing Restaurant after the paddle.
*The annual Pioneer Frolic is also happening this weekend with live music and pre 1840s demonstrations all day. Lots to see and do at the Lake to round out the day.
Hope to see you there. Steven Preston 724-813-5641 sgbc@zoominternet.net

Do you have any idea how long we will be out? I have to do a dog rescue run on Sunday. I have to pick up the rescue pup in Burbank, OH, at 6:00 pm.

Dawn, maximum time on the lake would be 4 hours, you could turn back anytime you want. We will leave at 10am and return by 1:00. 😊

Bummer!! I remembered last night that I have Cleveland Indians tickets for Sunday. Now I'm going to have to miss this fun day and I have to find someone else to cover my puppy rescue. But my Indians trump all else. haha

I'll have to catch up with you guys next time. Have fun.

Thanks to Linda and Steve Preston for a nice relaxing paddle on a lovely body of water, that was even better due to there being NO CANOES on this TCT club trip.

No sense for t-grippers to consort with the dark side on such a bright and sunny day....:59:
