Bald Eagles-Mahoning River
Was out for a drive on Sunday the 15th and found a new Bald Eagles nest on the Mahoning River in Warren Township.
GPS 41.265330, -80.860533 It is across the road of North River Rd NW. Very easy to spot right now a top of a tree at the rivers edge. From what I could see two adult and at lease on egg. This is the Third nest from Swift Park to Packard I have found. The first is half way between Swift and Canoe City (pointed it out at Chilly Run) then the new one and a little farther down across from the old copperweld pump house is the third. The first and third are only view able by boat. Mike Danko Ps this makes a total of 6 nest I know of on the Mahoning. the other three in order - By Center St Bridge (Y-Town), Past the 224 bridge rapid near edinburg pa, and the last in Mahoningtown right before the mahoning joins the Shenango River. |
Eagles are back...really
Cheryl and I were out on the lake (Walborn Res) for a couple of hours today, that is with snowshoes. At a distance we could see the local pair sitting near the usual nest tree. I have a grudge against these eagles. Their nest is over looking the far west end of the lake. It's a nice place to paddle EXCEPT the area is posted as a federally protected area...off limits!
Dumb eagles. KenM ps, Ice fisherman had just left so I checked the ice depth... 14". |
