Join Ken and Cheryl for a leisurely paddle around Deer Creek Reservoir. This is our favorite local paddling spot. There are no buildings around the lake and the shoreline here is nearly all forested so the lake has a nice wilderness feel. It's a good place for birds and other wildlife sightings. We will paddle about 4 miles of shoreline and will include a short distance up Deer Creek which we will access via the "Hidden Passage". Expect to be on the water for about 2-1/2 hours. Since this is a late season paddle it's hard to guess what the weather will be like. I would anticipate that it will be cool so dress accordingly. And as with all of our outings you will need to wear your life vest.

This 300 acre reservoir was built in 1954 for the water supply for Alliance, Oh. No gas engines are allowed. It's a popular lake with local paddlers. The park area around the lake is operated by Stark County Parks (Starkparks.com). The reservoir is not used for flood control so is not subject to the draining and flooding like many of our larger lakes. The water level remains fairly consistant year round.

Directions: From Deerfield, Oh at the intersection of SR 225 & SR 224..........Follow SR 224 & SR 225 WEST 2.5 miles to yellow flasher and turn LEFT (south) on SR 225........Go SOUTH on SR 225 for 3.5 miles.......Just after passing over Berlin Lake (which is now drained) turn RIGHT onto Price Street........Cross over the bridge and continue WEST on Price Street for 1.0 mile. You will see Deer Creek Reservoir on your left. The park entrance is just beyond on the left.

Note: There is a plastic toilet at the parking area. Dinner at Deerfield or Alliance after the paddle is a good possibility.
