Default Rio Grande

Twenty years ago I did a five-day, outfitter-supported camping trip on the Rio Grande in the Big Bend region; about 40 years ago a buddy and I did a four-day canoe camping trip on the North Fork of the Flambeau River in northern Wisconsin. On the last night a bear managed to reach our food that we hung in a tree, leaving only a can of Spork (Canadian version of Spam) for us to eat and facing 16 miles of paddling to the take out.

On Labor Day weekend for the past however many years, a loose collection of people from various clubs in the Mid-Atlantic states gather near the New River to paddle parts of it and surrounding rivers.
