BEAVER CREEK April 17th
Sunday, April 17th at 10:30 am meet time
We will do the section of the Little Beaver Creek from Sprucevale down to the Ohio River. Sprucevale is part of the Beaver Creek State park is also known as the Group Camp grounds or the Primitive camping area. I could not find a exact address, but it is on Spruceville Rd/ County Rd 428 it is very close to the Equestrian Camp. The address for this camp is 12816 Sprucevale Road East Liverpool, OH 43920 Our take out is at a park on the corner of Calcutta Rd and Midland Rd in PA. Here is a nice ramp for easy take out, restrooms and a pavilion. Please pack a lunch as we will stop near grimms bridge for lunch and relax for a few. This trip is around 11 miles on the water. It has several small class 1 rapids that is a blast to paddle threw. There is one Class 2 rapid at fredricktowns. The easiest way around is to the right bank. If any questions please email me at mfdanko99@yahoo.com or call 330-847-9741 Mike Danko |

Can't make it :2:
I'm so bummed I can't make this... Have been looking forward to it since last year. It's going to rain for the next 24 hours so it should be fun! Looking for lots of pictures and stories!

The Little Beaver gage is running over 5 feet. During last year's trip, the level was 3.7, a reading that seemed to be about paddling zero, although I think American Whitewater rates zero a little lower. On the trip two years ago the gage reading was a juicy 5.8. Depending how much rain we get on Saturday, it might be one big flush....
Right now (Saturday at 3:45 p.m.), reading is about 7.5 (3,450 cfs) and climbing. Last edited by JPTolson; 04-16-2011 at 02:43 PM. |

count me in
Looking forward to seeing you all again. Should be a blast. Do you know if the bridge is still out that caused us to take that wild-ass detour last year to get back and forth to the take out?

The bridge on Sprucvale rd is fixed. Was down there last week to check.
I looked this morning and the creek is up at 5.14, so I imagine some rapids will be gone, but it will be a good paddle. |

Too high
The Little Beaver is at 9.6 foot and it goes up for about 18 hours after it is done raining At 6 ft it is fun, no rocks and the waves at EAgle rapid get big and that last rapid washes out but when it is about 8ft the river is up in the trees on the side if you fall out there is no bank to pull over to and the current is strong so you can't get the boat over to the side so you are in for a very long swim, 2 years ago after a summer thunderstorm I reasoned if 6 ft was fun 8 ft would be even more fun and talked my friends into going down and nearly drowned my one friend she had been a competive swimmer but in that currents she couln't get to the side and we couldn't get the boat to side, she had her life jacket on and it was about 1/2 mile to where the current slowed enough to get out when we got to that spot there were 5 other kayakers who were also swept into that spot they had even longer swims.

At 1 am it is at 9.6,, I still want to try it. I have done it at 8ft three years ago.
I will still show up at sprucevale and make a decision there and see if anyone else shows and wants to go Mike |
