Raccoon Creek 4/12/15 Cancelled
Due to the current high level, extremely swift currents, and washed out put in and take out, and the Raccoon Creek trip for Sunday April 12 has been cancelled and is being rescheduled for April 19 at 11:00 AM. My decision was made after scouting the creek and discussions with other club members. The safety of all club members were my number one concern. I hope to see everyone on April 19. If you going out in the water this weekend please be safe.

Disappointed
Hey Bruce,
If you are going to canoe Raccoon Creek any time before next Sunday please give us a call. Mark is on call Sunday the 19th and he can't come. Raccoon is in our backyard and we have never been able to do it. Call 412-974-2862. We currently have no land line due to the storm Thursday. Fried the phones, satellite receiver and computer modem. Almost thought we lost the well pump but Mark was able to replace a minor part. |

Might want to rethink Raccoon Creek
Raccoon Creek is a stocked and approved trout water in PA. This will be the first weekend of Trout Season in PA. As such the stream will be teaming with anglers both in and out of the water. I forsee many conflicts with other user groups to plan an outing for this weekend in PA Trout waters. $.02

Thanks for the update on trout season, I did not know that. I've researched the matter, and to the best of my knowledge Raccoon Lake and Traverse Creek (Both loacted in Raccoon Creek State Park) are stocked with trout, but not Raccoon Creek. (Traverse creek flows into Raccoon Creek.) I may be wrong, but the link listed below is the source of my information and Raccoon Creek is not on the list (Beaver County). I've canoed Raccoon Creek for several years and may have come acrossed 2 or 3 fisherman without any problems. Raccoon Creek is very isolated and I think fisherman and boaters can share it on that day. Thanks for your concern.

How is this creek? Any major rapids like Fredrickstown on the Little Beaver Creek? Is it scenic?

You are correct
Raccoon creek is not listed as trout stocked. I was looking at Raccoon Creek State Park and not the creek itself.

Raccoon Creek
Raccoon Creek starts out as a bunch of twist and turns in the beginning. Then the middle section is somewhat a straight paddle with some ripples and moving water. Depending on the water level, I'd say there are two class two rapids in the trip. The last section has class one rapids for a few miles and is very scenic.
