French Creek-May 5th
We will do a trip on the lovely French Creek from Utica to Franklin on May 5th. We will meet at the boat launch on Elk St. in Franklin at 10am and shuttle as few cars as possible to the launch in Utica. It is about a 11.5 mile run which could take up to 4 hours to complete, so you might want to bring some snacks or lunch for the trip. This is generally an easy run with only one real rapid near the end. What I like is the scenery and the many little islands and channels you can go around on this run. In fact I got in trouble with some members last year when I got behind and they waited for me on the right side of an island and I slipped by on the left side not knowing they were waiting. They caught up with me about an hour later.
Minimum water level for this run is 2ft at the Utica gauge. The nice thing about this location is if the French is too low, we can go down to Fisherman's Cove on the Allegheny as an alt. run. Remember, MAY 5th, 10AM, ELK St. boat launch in Franklin. Questions?? Contact me - eartt16@aol.com or 330-568-1619 Ed

Dianne and I will be attending this trip. We plan on camping at Vacationland Campground in Sandy Lake, PA (Goddard Park) that weekend and then drive to the boat launch on Elk Street in Franklin on Sunday morning to meet with the group.
I will be pulling a 12 foot pop-up, does anyone know if these is there ample room and parking at the Franklin boat launch to leave my pop-up there (with lock on) so I can drive up to Utica to put in our canoe? I think I found the boat launch in Franklin on Goggle. Is there any chance someone who is familiar with the area can post the GPS location for the boat launch on Elk street in Franklin and the Utica Launch. Looking forward to seeing everyone again! We had a great time on Beaver Creek. Thanks, Bruce Ambrose |

Sorry we can't join you.
Hi All,
Sorry we can't join you for the French Creek Paddle. I work Sundays and can't get off. We will be paddling French Creek on Saturday and made arrangements with OARS for transport. Hope you all have a great time. Thanks Mike for your work on the Mahoning. If you need help sometime, let us know. Kathy & Mark Murtha |

Had fun ,despite the wind. It just made me work a little harder. Good turnout, with a few first timers, and soon to be members, to come with the group. The water level at 3ft was high enough to paddle in a tandem canoe but left some of the fun side channels around islands too shallow to try. Thanks to everyone who came out to Franklin on a Sunday morning to make this run.

Thanks for a great first trip
Just wanted to say thanks for the great first trip. Thx to Ed for organizing everything including the BEAUTIFUL weather. When you put in your weather order for next year, how 'bout unchecking the box for strong headwind
Thx to Steve for giving our boats a ride in that shiny new aluminum trailer - SWEET! Thx to Mike and Bruce for the pictures. We've had the boats for 2+ years and I never bothered to get any pictures of us in them. Kind of disappointed that I didn't see Mike swimming Thx to Stan for teaching me a lot about being prepared. I didn't know you could squeeze that much stuff into a 9.5' Swifty. Thx to JP for hanging out in the back and making sure everybody made it down safely. Even my son said it was reassuring knowing that the 'Big Green Machine' was back there and ready to come to the rescue if we needed it. Looking forward to doing more trips with you folks when time permits....Mike |
