Saw the news broadcast very nice, Chuck did a great job. Did you hear what the professor said at the end about the water?

Bacteria Levels
Yes, I heard the professor's comments on bacteria levels exceeding those recommended for bodily contact. It would have been helpful if he had indicated the specific sections of the river where they are high and whether the bacteria levels are high at certain times of the year and/or at what flow rates.

I saw it too. Has more work been done on the Struthers Dam?

Opening on river left
I've heard through the grapevine that there is now an opening on river left as suggested in Stan Boney's piece, but I have not seen or paddled to confirm it.

I think that Prof. may be on to something. Ever since Mike Danko took a few dips in the Mahoning he has been acting rather strange. It has progressed to the point where he would prefer to paddle in a canoe over a kayak! Need I say more.

I never swam the mahoning but prefer a canoe, the times are a changing back to the pure form of paddling.

Canoes versus Kayaks
I can't wait until Ed posts his well-considered and insightful take on the number of canoes versus kayaks on club trips. It is hilarious!

It is true, there now is a opening on the far river left as you come to the dam.
Much easier, has less water going to it and less of a drop with no under current that I could tell. I threw a ball in it and it popped right back out. It is very easy to go though as I have already done it. Mike Danko |
