Lake Milton Moonlight paddle Friday August 19
Trumbull Canoe Trails
Moon Light Paddle-Lake Milton-Trip Leader Sue Ramdin When- Friday AUGUST 19th (rain date Saturday AUGUST 20) Where-Sue Ramdin’s Place on Lake Milton 2898 Penn Court Lake Milton, OH 44429 GPS 41.077316,-80.977310 Time- 6 pm or later Paddle Time- Around 9:30pm Gear- Glow Sticks to decorate your Canoe or Kayak. Red Lighted Head Lamps also are great. BOAT or YOU MUST BE VISABLE IN THE DARK!!! Bring a chair, The club will provide hotdogs and burgers. There will be iced tea and water to drink, Feel free to bring whoever else you want. Between 6 & 9 pm we will do a Pot Luck Dinner. Bring a favorite dish for or a favorite dessert. No set time to eat- more like a buffet style of meal with a camp fire and time to relax and enjoy great company with paddling stories of years past. About 9:30 we will head to the lake and do a Paddle on Lake Milton and head south were the lake turns back into the Mahoning River. We will paddle as far as we like and some will attempt to make it to the Berlin Dam, and turn around and head back to Sue’s. About a five mile paddle is what to expect if you go all the way to the Berlin Dam and back. After the paddle we can hang out by the fire, and maybe eat again so plan on a late night if you'd like. If anyone wants to pitch a tent in the yard or throw a bag on the floor in the house that would be fine. If anyone has some firewood that would be a big help- the stuff we have available is way too rotten. Hope we have better weather than this weekend! Sue Last edited by suram; 08-14-2016 at 06:32 PM. weather forecast...
According to the national weather service it looks like there's a greater chance of rain for Saturday than for Friday. Unless something huge changes between now and tomorrow the moonlight paddle is a go for Friday. Hope to see you there! Sue

Thanks to Sue and Steve for arranging a perfect paddle Friday night. Smooth as glass water, a bright moon, great food, and a very welcoming campfire afterwards. But most of all thanks to them for welcoming all of us into their home.

Thanks to all, old friends and new, that came out! The weather cooperated nicely for the 16 paddlers (1 canoe, 15 kayaks) and 2 fire tenders. I believe Stan said the trip was 5.7 miles. We didn't quite make it to the dam due to really shallow water. Thanks to Ken and Cheryl for bringing firewood and everyone for bringing a bite to eat!
PS- thanks so much for the great paddle bag! Last edited by suram; 08-20-2016 at 03:42 PM. |

I would like to add my thanks and appreciation to Sue and Steve for opening their Lake Milton home to the club, allowing us to continue our tradition of a summer moonlight run. It was really a beautiful, still, and peaceful evening. The boats seemed to slice through the water with such ease. It was nice to be paddling with old friends and new members (even if they were all in kayaks!)

Sue and Steve... Thank You
Cheryl and I also had a nice evening. It's always a treat to get out on the water on a warm summer night. And it was a particularily quiet and still evening to be gliding along in the dark. As I sat and loafed for a while I pointed my flashlight down into the water. Small minnows with green eyes and a red spot on their heads would come to the surface and investigate. I managed to touch one but they were way too fast to catch. We heard later that Rory had a small fish jump into his kayak.
Another thanks to Sue and Steve for their hospitality and for inviting the club to their home. Ken and Cheryl |
