My 50 miler
As I said in the news, I would be unable to go with the group on the 25th so I did my own camp trip on the Allegheny earlier this week. I went from just above Oil City to Parker, doing the trip solo. I started about 12:30 in Oil City above the rapids just so I could run them. You could make a fun day in Oil City just doing the rapids, as there is a put-in about a half mile down from the rapids. Have someone pick you up, run thru town, and do it again. I stopped late afternoon on an island about 8 miles down from Franklin. Nice camp area. Went about 16 miles that day. Great day , but had a terrible night. Strong storms for a few hours had me on edge.
The next day I traveled 22 miles down to Mill Creek. This has to be the nicest part of the river. Deep gorges, few cabins, no main roads, and clear water make this a scenic trip. And again a nice day and a stormy night. It was clear when I started out Thursday morning on the last 12 mile section down to Parker. It was a little windy but I finished up about 1:00. This could be a fall trip. Just start in Franklin.

Sounds like a great and exciting trip, Ed. Take any pictures to post in user albums?
