Trip Cancelled - TO BE RESCHEDULED
Paddling Friends,
The club trip on the Cuyahoga from both River Bend to Tannery Park and Tannery Park to Waterworks Park is cancelled for today. It will be rescheduled. While the water level is dropping from 1,200 cfs as of 6:00 a.m., the hourly weather forecast shows an 80 to 100 percent probability of rain and thunder between now and 6:00 p.m. suggesting that the river level could once again begin to rise. My regrets for canceling the trip, but it seems the prudent thing to do. For a little perspective, Crooked River Adventures, the outfitter that rents canoes and kayaks at Tannery Park, stops renting boats when the water level exceeds 700 cfs, according to one of its employees whom I spoke to on Friday. I hope to see everyone who planned to attend today when the trip is rescheduled. JP Last edited by JPTolson; 05-31-2015 at 06:34 AM. |

Thanks Mr Tolson. It's always a groaner to have to cancel a trip. We live about 30 miles do south of Kent. In the line of storms between 7:00 and 7:20 we got 1/2 inch of rain in one heavy downpour. Coming your way. Dang...I just got a new paddle that needs broken in.

JP, Mother Nature must favor canoes on her waterways. You mentioned in an earlier post that 31 paddlers were expected for this trip. Rumor was that it was going to be 29 kayaks and a mere 2 canoes, including your Chrysler Newport. Mother Nature was not happy with this imbalance and took it upon herself to make sure this did not happen by inundating the area with rainfall.
Hope to see you on the reschedule or next weekend at Riverfest.

The water rose nearly 3,000 cfs to a little shy of 4,000 cfs in what appears to be about two hours during the time we would have been on the water. That's what I would call a very steep and rapid rise.
