Default Sunday, June 21th 2020 at 10 AM Lake Wilhelm

Unofficial Outing
Sunday, June 21th 2020 at 10 AM
Lake Wilhelm at Goddard State Park in Mercer County, PA
We will gather at Launch Area 3 between 9:30 and 10:00 AM. No shuttle will be involved so we want to depart about 10 AM. We will be going on a round trip heading north to start.
*This is a flat water paddle so it will be excellent for all skill levels including beginner and first timers so please invite them all to join us. Some kayaks and canoes are available for rent at the lake marine concession.
*We will be traveling about 6 miles total. Binoculars and cameras will help. We should see bald eagles, ospreys, cormorants, great blue herons, Canada geese, and various ducks, kingfishers, hawks, seagulls and crows at the least.
*Directions are easy. Take I-80 to I-79 north, Go north on I-79 two exits, Turn left on Route 358, Just across the bridge you will bare right (Brown sign for Goddard State Park), Follow this road to crossroads, Turn Right and follow to the lake. Launch Area 3 will be on the left after crossing the causeway, Turn into Launch 3 and go boat launch.
*Couple of extra things are:
*Linda and I are going to pack a picnic late lunch for ourselves to eat after the paddle. All are welcome to join us.
*Goddard State Park has (I my humble opinion) the nicest bike trail in NW PA. It is a 12 mile loop around the lower lake and runs right by the put-in. This trail is paved and has curves and hills and bridges going thru fields and woodlands. If you like to bike maybe bring bikes along also for a double outing.
*The Lake Wilhelm Winery is just up the road and has some really great wines and snacks. Sometimes they have live entertainment but not sure this year what is scheduled.
Hope to see you there. Steven Preston 724-813-5641 sgbc@zoominternet.net

Default Would like to go if someone can help me

I have had 2 wrist surgeries since last summer, the last being about 3 weeks ago. I think by the date of this event, I will be ready to test out my paddling ability. I have a brand new Old Town Castine 140 that has not touched water yet and I am dying to get it wet. I think I can hold a paddle but I know I don't have the strength in my hands to lift the kayak to load it on my roof. If anyone in my local area (Mineral Ridge) is going to this event and has enough room to haul my kayak with you, please let me know.
