Several years ago, MCP was engaged in a long-term planning process in which park planners sought public input. I recall attending one of the sessions and urged that the creek be opened to paddling. After the meeting, as the attendees were milling (no pun intended) about, I met the chief of MCP police whose name I cannot recall. He was a kayaker and also felt that the creek should be open to paddling. So at the time, I thought there might be some hope for paddling the creek inside the park.

Default What about upstream of Lake Newport?

To continue beating this topic to death...what about the legality of paddling Mill Creek up stream of Lake Newport? The club has had trips where we paddled upstream until the creek was no longer passable due to deadfalls. Land along the creek upstream from Lake Newport, I believe, is still part of Mill Creek Park for some distance???

Saw a post today that the Metroparks is seeking advisory board members. I saw no mention of a residency requirement. You guys should get on there and get to advising.

Default Mill Creek Haiku

Mill Creek Haiku (in honor of J. P. Tolson)

Secluded spot, Secret launch,
Canoe touches cold water,
Small ripples.

Paddle cleaves water,
Pushing against smooth current,
Birds take flight.

Hidden camera,
Cursed electronic spy
Silently records.

Glorious Day! Long remembered.
Tales tell of
Day in Court.
