Default Buckaloons Camping

Buckaloons Camping:
Warren PA
Sept 18 – 20
Allegheny River & Conewango Creek – sections TBD
Trip leaders – Mark & Jodi Vallecorsa

I’ve recently learned that Rich & Patty will not be leading the trip to Buckaloons this year. I, however, made a site reservation months ago, and scheduled vacation time to be there ….. soooo, at the Swift Park trip, Jodi and I sort-of inherited this trip. Honestly, we’re both really looking forward to getting away, and up into the woods for a great weekend of camping and canoeing. And we hope folks will join us. A recent check of the Buckaloons reservation system revealed that there are indeed sites available. If you have never been, Buckaloons has electric and primitive sites, water spigots, a spacious shower house with hot showers, and typically has on-site ice and fire wood.

Typically, Rich and Patty set up a camp kitchen that could feed an army; and I know, many of us have enjoyed that immensely. While Jodi and I are not quite prepared to rise to the culinary standard that Rich and Patty have set, I don’t want to lose that mealtime comradery. Following the model of past years, we will cook a communal dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, and ask that members contribute to defray the cost. Everybody will be responsible for their own breakfasts, lunches, and beverages. We will need to know who intends to partake in the communal dinners by TUES SEPT 15.

We will observe Corona precautions during shuttles, so please be prepared to wear a mask and have vehicle windows open. Please feel free to contact me if anybody has questions. 724-601-9801 (Mark's cell)

Let’s keep this club tradition alive.

Mark & Jodi

At this time I am working a half day Saturday. After work will head up there to spend the night and hope to get a paddle in.

Default fresh eggs

We have 16 chickens at our house...

Chickens are very social creatures. They will probably enjoy a nice camping trip AND those will be some VERY fresh eggs! You must have a portable nest box? I hope you didn't have to pay extra for the campsite.

Nope. We couldn't get rid of anyone. Even when we left transportation as an easy out for anyone who couldn't stand our company.

Big thank you goes to Mark & Jodi. They put a lot of time and effort in Buckaloons weekend. Thanks also goes to Dustin and his chickens for suppling eggs for breakfast.

I arrived Saturday afternoon and got to hang out with Jodi by the fire until the group got back from paddling.

On Saturday there were 7 paddles in 5 kayaks and 2 canoes.

They did part of the Conewango Creek to Buckaloons. I was told there was a lot of bumming and scraping and Mark getting stuck on a rod and Stan helping him out.

Sunday after breakfast we had 7 paddlers in 3 canoes and 2 kayaks made the trip from the Kinzua Dam to Point view park in Warren, PA.

It was 8.32 miles section that allowed us to go in and out of the island and paddle threw the refinery rapids. What made this trip great was Jodi paddling an old town next canoe and doing a good job and me having Addi (Dustin's Daughter) as my bowman.

Had a blast at the rapid as Dustin and his daughter walked up for a second trip and so did Addi and myself.

I am so proud of Addi, after the first time through she set up a perfect bow move to allow us to catch a good eddie. Then she helped me with a great ferry right in front of the rapid.

I was only there a day and half, but it was a great little vacation before heading home.

It was also really nice to see Judy and meet her husband Jeff. They made the trip from Ligonier, PA

Thank you Mark and Jodi
Mike
