Default I'm bored so let's talk Kayaks

I stopped by Outdoor Recreation Equipment and took a look at some ready made bungee kits for the bow and stern of my kayak. The kits were $26.95 for 4 u shaped hooks (?), couple of feet of bungee and four pop rivets.

Instead I purchased 15' of bungee, 6 pop rivets and will source the u hooks at Handyman hardware for 50 cents each for a grand total of about $18.

I'll have enough spare bungee left over to make a paddle leash and hold down. This is my ice cometh and stayeth winter project.

How about you guys and gals? Anyone doing anything to their butt boat or canoe that you'd want to share?

I am gathering tons of info on the Alleghney River trip....let's go!

Wardie,

I think we're all dreaming about blue skies, warm sun, and getting out in our boats. Don't know if you've found this in your search for information on the Allegheny, but here is a link to the Allegheny River in the Western Pennsylvania Canoeing Guide. The book is out of print and its contents were updated a few years ago, but it has never been reprinted to reflect those updates.

What is your plan for the allegheny, put in and take out, is it a day trip or more than that and camping on islands.

Default Allegheny Trip

I'm thinking 3 days total. 2 Nights camping, 3 days paddling, bobbing, floating and maybe
some fishing and lots of sight seeing. Maybe put in below Warren around Tidoute? Thanks JP for the trip info. I'm looking to buy that guide. Wardie

Hey Wardie, your best bets would be from Buckaloons down to Tionesta, about a 30 mile run or Franklin down to Emlenton, about a 34 mile run. Both areas offer camping sites along the river. Both would be nice for a slow fishing cruise. Franklin down is a little more remote because you don't have the road running along side. There is a bike trail that runs river left and there are cabins everywhere. I printed river trail maps off of the Pa. Fish and Boat Commission site for my 75 mile trip last year. I went from West Hickory to Parker. This year I plan to start at Buckaloons and go to Parker (100 miles, 4days) near the end of June. Wanna go ?

Default canoeing or yakking?

Which boat will you take? It would depend of the actual days Thursday through Sunday type of thing? Give me more info. I'd love to do it if my schedule fits. Wardie

EAR let's talk at the club get together on the 20th.

Default bungees galore!

Just picked up more pop rivets and a couple of tie downs for the Vaopr. Either by canoe or by kayak I'll be ready in the spring! Wardie
