Default overhead racks

We are fortunate to have a pole building (garage) with high rafters. I made a rack that hangs down above each vehicle. I can lift and slide the kayaks up out of the way. I did consider attaching long brackets or j-hooks to the wall to hold the boats. But then I would have had to move all the junk already hanging there. Ha.

Years ago I tried a pulley type bicycle type lift. It could handle the weight of one kayak but it was scary and not easy. Might be better ones today? After that I actually made my own hoist out of a cheap boat winch and steel cables. That worked but was really slow. And I had to use a ladder to reach the crank. I had the bright idea to position the winch directly above the car so I could lower the kayak right on to the car rack. It needed better slings to cradle the kayaks.

I purchased 2 sets of plastic shelving from Aldi's and have my two canoes stacked one above the other on the shelving, with the shelving spread such that each end of the canoe is supported and suspended above the ground. The cockpits are facing the ground, and these are situated outdoors next to my shed. The kayaks are in the "Lifetime" plastic storage shed sitting on a wooden work bench; they are kept out of the elements.

I keep mine in the garage standing up secured with bungee cords resting on a piece of styrofoam.. This way it is easily accessible for some snowyaking.

Default snow yaking

Hey Bobk,

If it snows this year at the Chilly Chili Run I'll pull you up to swift Park.... behind my Subaru. That would be a blast!
