Ron as so much experience and good tip on paddling and how to be safe. This is a good chance to ask him questions on strokes and how to handle you kayak or canoe. If he come we also have John Paul Tolson who is one of the best solo canoe paddlers in the area . He also has many good tips on strokes and safety. Mike,
I regret to inform that I'll be unable to attend. Work has other plans for me (spring disaster recovery project). I'd much rather be wet then behind my desk... but I gotta be a corporate pawn this weekend ! Have fun. |

On Sunday is the pool session. I found out the Pool entrance is on the Far East Side of WGH in a corner spot.
I will be early so people can find it. Bring extra clothes to change into and again you may bring your boats to use. But it must be clean!! Please bring all throw ropes that you may have. At this time we have 19 attending the class. Thank you Mike |

A big thanks to Mike Danko and Ron Ells for leading the pool session at a really nice Warren Harding pool. It was well-attended with about 20 people learning to get in and out of a kayak, falling out of kayaks in the deep end and getting back in, putting on a PFD in water over their heads, practicing turns with sweeps and bow draws, as well as hearing about dressing for the water and other safety tips.
This was a great orientation session for new paddlers and there were quite a few who attended. But it was also good for old geezers like me who need a refresher course and chance to practice. I hope this becomes an annual club event. Last edited by JPTolson; 03-16-2014 at 06:53 PM. |

I will second that thought JP. This would be a good idea to do every year. It gives us a chance to encourage newbies like myself to get out there and give it a try in a nice warm pool with plenty of help around. Thanks Mike and Ron, and everyone else who helped out.
I had trouble loading the pictures I took today to the site. So I loaded some to our Facebook page-Trumbull Canoe Trails Paddling Club. I also posted some to the Friends of the Mahoning River's Facebook page as well. |

Great safety and skills session at the Warren Harding Pool. It was great to pratice skills (like getting in and out of boat) and learning new tricks in a controlled, warm, clean environment. Great job in setting this up for us Mike!

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Trumb...ub/90703842928 You have to type in exactly Trumbull Canoe Trails Paddling Club the first time you access the page. After that when you start to type "Tr" it comes up automatically. |

Amazing day! We learned a lot and it was great to get a chance to experience different kayaking situations in a controlled environment.
