Default West PA solo Canoe Rendezvous 2013

Hi Folks - to remind about an event close by to most of us, which may be of particular interest to single-bladers. The event is held at Cooper's Lake Campground in Portersville PA, just adjacent to Moraine State Park. The event itself is free, though the campground charges a modest fee for day-trippers, and of course charges a fee for camping. If you are a canoe paddler, or aspire to be, it is well worth the short trip across the border. The "official" blurb follows:

Just to check in and remind everyone ? indeed the 6th annual (2013) West PA Solo Canoe Rendezvous is a Go for the first full weekend of June, which is to say Fri, May 31, Sat/Sun June 1,2 In keeping with the traditionally laid-back nature of this event, most stuff will take place on the Saturday, and we probably won?t know what that is until some time Sat AM. Friday tends to be a day of arrival, sayin? Hi, and lookin? at boats, lotsa visiting and catching up, though there are always a few of us around beforehand, and if the waters will allow, we may do some pick-up paddling on some local waterways. We expect some manufacturers to be present with some demo boats; there will be some FreeStyle instruction and exhibition; Dead Fish Polo is always an option; a candle-light paddle Sat eve if the weather smiles; possibly a Giant Schlalom buoy race (must be seen to be believed, but even one?s own eyeballs may not convince ? loads of Fabulous Prizes!); some iteration of the FreeStyle String Band should be on hand for some (very) informal music in the evenings; the LAR Vegetarian Pot-Luck on Friday night for the fun (and taste) of it; and like that. Yeah the emphasis is on solo canoes, but tandems are equally welcome. Got a boat or some gear to sell? Bring it. There will be some food available on the Saturday and Sun Am ? we?ll let you know about that a little closer. Details on Whatever available on the website wpascr.org as they are known. Questions may be asked there too ? I try to monitor the site regularly for that purpose, but ?regularly? is a relative term. Use ?contact? to reach us directly. Do come. As we always say ? and it?s true ? it?s a Very Nice Affair Indeed.

Default rendezvous update

All is good for 2013. We know that Hemlock Canoe, Colden Canoe, and Dogpaddle Canoe and Woodworks will be on hand. Not yet sure about Placid Boatworks yet - they are still recovering from their disastrous winter fire, but are back in production again. Our local Boat shop, Wind 'n Water Boatworks will be represented, and we know a number of our FreeStyle friends will be along.

If there are enough folks around on the Friday, and they are interested, we may try a pick-up trip on one of our local waterways - this assuming there is decent water of course. It has been an on-and-off spring in that regard here.

The Vegetarian pot-luck is on for the Friday night, say about 6 or so, probably at the Big Top. Everyone is welcome, and don't worry a whole lot if you lack a contribution - there's always tons of stuff, and as I say, everyone is welcome.

We will have some sort of "continental" fare on the Saturday AM (coffee and stuff too), as well as lunch fixin's and dinner on Saturday. These are all handled by a local caterer. We'll have more precise details about all of that shortly, but for now, be assured that there will be food around if you'd rather not deal with your own the whole time. Expect some stuff on the Sunday AM as well - as I say details shortly.
