Question Mill Creek from Western Reserve Rd to Lake

Has anyone ever canoed the Mill Creek in Boardman , Ohio ? I was out on Western Reserve Rd the otherday and it was small but looked canoeable . Might be a bushwhacking trip but also may be a diamond in the ruff .

Has anyone gave it a try yet ?

I've also been eyeing this part of Mill Creek to paddle some day, because it looks doable from Western Reserve Road. I suspect, however, that there'll be lots of wood to deal with. I'd be interested in paddling it with you some time.

Default Mill Creek

I have paddled upstream on Mill Creek from Lake Newport, and only got as far as Shields Road. Water levels were normal, so you may want to try Mill Creek from Western Reserve Road downstream after a bit of rainfall. That being said, I too would like to give it a go one day.

How far up Mill Creek were you able to go and what kept you from getting any further, the water level, strainers, or something else? What was the scenery like upstream of Shields Road? Thanks.

Thumbs up

Thx to all of the input . I'll keep an eye on Mill Creek and if we get some rain , set up an spur of the moment trip on a saturday morning . This should allow for any bushwhacking that might occur .

I, w/3 friends, did this on June 5, 2004 (the day Regan died).

Bc of SO MANY TREES, the 5 miles between WR and the Golf Course Fording Bridge took EIGHT HOURS!!! On the trip, we developed our own lingo for our obstacles:
"Overs" "Unders" "Garage Doors" etc.

One of my companions, who accidently went swimming twice in the last 15 minutes (fatigue?), keeps bringing up doing it again.

About 2006 or 7, the park did remove trees between the Boardman Sewage Treatment Plant and 224.

Thanks for the warning, Ray...I suddenly have a little less interest in this stretch, but would still consider doing it with some adventurous souls. Did you have enough water or were you dragging bottom at times? Was it at all scenic?

We had enough water. THERE WERE SO MANY TREES!!!

The next year we did Golf Course to Newport after rains. We FLEW bc of high water.

Its scenic. Remember we had to focus on the obstacles tho.

I can't imagine taking your canoe!
