When-Sunday July 9th
Where-Girard Boat Launch-Front Street Girard, OH 44420 (no exact address given)
GPS 41.15265732743356, -80.70755923068366
Time 10:30 AM
Length 10 Miles
Class I+ (II) Rapids

We will try something a little different and combine two shorter sections into a longer paddle.
We will meetup at Girard and be ready to do the shuttle a little after 10:30 am. Once we hit the water we will encounter several rapids spaced out on this paddle with a mandatory Portage around division/crescent st dam.First rapid is Trestle Rapid (Class I+) then down river we will portage the dam. Then we will encounter Wood Mill Rapid (Class I). After we pass the B&O we will encounter Marshall St Bridge Rapid (Class II) with 2 chutes to go though; far river left and far river right.
Then our next rapid in our journey through Youngstown will be Cement Plant Wave Train (Class I). After we pass Center St Bridge we will go through Rebar Rapd (Class II) and right after that we will hit Iron Bridge Wave train (Class I Rapid). Then it is a nice easy paddle to the take out.
Please Text me or call me with any question or to let me know you are coming.

Did the trip go on Sunday? And, if so, how was it?

Talking Trip Review

With the weather not looking the greatest we still had six paddlers in five boats (4 kayaks & 1 Canoe) make the 10 mile trek down the Mahoning. The weather was good with only one spot with a little rain, beside that it was partly cloudy.
This was my first trip tandem canoeing with my farther in law and we made it just fine through all the rapids.
We stopped at the B&O for lunch under the nice shaded tree with picnic table.
At Marshall Street Bridge Rapid we went river right and hit hard on the one rock but kept it up right. Everyone else went river left with no problems with the bridge pillar.
We ran into 2 kayaks fishing and another 4 going from Girard to the B&O for a trip.
Nice to see the launches and dock being used
Thank you to all who came for a great trip with great camaraderie.
