Raccoon Creek Trip Report
Raccoon Creek Trip Report. (Pennsylvania)
Bruce & Dianne Date: 5/18/12 Put in: Aliquippa, PA. Green Garden Plaza access: GPS: 40.599996?, -80.305868 Parking: Can park around 6 vehicles at Green Garden Plaza access. Put out: Potter Twp., PA - Rocky Bottom Access: GPS: 40.648461?, -80.346557? Parking: Can park around 10 vehicles at access site. Paddle Time: 3 1/2 hours Trip Length: 9 miles Water gauge @ Start: 3.22 ft Water gauge @ Finish 3.13 ft Strainers: 1 (Tree. Hard portage) on video Minimum Level needed to do this trip is 2.4 ft. The Moffatts Mill gauge is above 2.4 ft 20% of the time. This trip is hard to schedule at times. The scenery was beautiful. Great rock structures the last three miles. A lot of the rapids were washed out because of the level of the water. The rapids would have been much better if the water level was below 3.0 ft. I am going to try to open up some room for the portage around the tree. That tree can be reached if the property owner lets me go through their yard to get to it. I made a short video of the trip. Looks like another creek to add the 'do' list. Wish I could have been along. Thanks for all the data on put in/take out and levels and the video.

I am in Ambridge area and am somewhat familiar with Raccoon Creek area. I can meet ya to lend a hand, or chainsaw, to clear that tree. I've been pondering a trip on Raccoon from 151 down.
