Default Pool Session

At this time I am working with Steve from Warren G Harding for the pool session. We will have to move our time in the AM or late PM on the 16th. They have a community pool event from 2-5 pm.
We could also do Saturday if we have enough members.

Right know we are working out the details of us not having insurance and seeing if we can sign a waver.

Once we get this worked out I will post more info. Once that is done I will need to know exactly who is coming, but one step at a time.
Thank you
Mike

Thanks for the update Mike. I'm looking forward to taking the new kayak to this event if we are able to get time in the pool. I'd vote for a.m. vs p.m.

Oh, and will there be any canoes allowed? A friend at work had asked.

I also vote for AM instead of PM. Thanks Mike

Default Insurance

There is a possibility to get insurance through the ACA (American Canoe Association).

This could be done two ways. One, if the instructor(s) for the safety class are certified ACA instructors, they can get insurance that way (although there are # of participant limits per instructor). And you can also get 3rd party insurance for the venue (at a nominal additional charge).

The second way is to become an ACA-affiliated club. The cost ranges from $100 to $225 per year (depending on the number of members). In theory, if you do this, all of your events can be covered, but to be covered it does require all participants to either be ACA members or pay a $5 event fee. For normal paddles, I don't think this would make sense, but for events like this where the venue requires insurance, charging an extra $5 per person might not be a big deal.

I'm not necessarily recommending this, just putting the information out there.

I like that idea Jim. If the club does more events like this safety class and the Riverfest to increase interest in canoeing and kayaking it seems like it would be worthwhile. Recreational paddling seems to be gaining popularity in this area and TCT can be a big part of that. The more people who use the rivers and lakes the more likely improvements such as put-ins, take-outs, and such will be realized.

Is TCT a non-profit? I'd be willing to help out with organizing a fundraiser to pay the ACA membership. If not we could get a sponsor non-profit to raise the funds. We did that with the 7th ward group from Youngstown for the "Friends".

TCT is non profit- and because of that the pool session should be a go
I have met with WGH and worked it out and showed what I want to do. I need to hear back from one Steve on last time to confirm it.

Here is the set up
-TCT Members only NO GUEST
-Will have to sign WGH waiver
-Boats Must be cleaned
-Canoes are welcome Members only example JP, ED Bruce & Diane
-no Horse play

Money as changed and need to talk to other offices to make sure we are ok with it.
Since we don't have insurance here is how we can do it

We write a check for the pool time and now a janitors time= $162
We pay the for a life guard and administrator time = 100 in Cash
total cost = 262.

Our time will be 10am or 11 am start to 1pm on Sunday the 16th.

Once I get the final word, and talk to Ed and pinky and trusties I will let everyone know.

Thank you for your patience with this

That seems kind of expensive for the whole club to cover. I'd be willing to pay something as I was planning on going. If enough people are interested maybe we could split the cost amongst the group who are going.

That is still cheaper than the Y's or Hubbard and Boardman pools

We have more than enough to cover it, I will call ed and patty and trustees to make sure.
