Default TCTC PicNic 2018

TRUMBULL CANOE TRAILS
ANNUAL CLUB PICNIC

WHEN: Sunday, July 8th, 2018
WHERE: 147 N. Leavitt Rd, Leavittsburgh, OH 44430
GPS: 41.241675, -80.881140
TIME: 11:00 am

This year, we will return to Canoe City Park, one of the Trumbull County Metroparks, and the unofficial home base of our club. Shortly after arrival, we’ll get the grills started and commence with the picnic. TCTC will provide hamburgers, vege-burgers, hotdogs, plates, and utensils. Club members are encouraged to bring a side dish and / or dessert to share. Also, this is a BYOB event - the club does not provide beverages. Members are also reminded to bring a chair.

After the picnic, we will hold a short meeting. Once the meeting concludes, we will move to Thomas Swift Metropark (870 Benedict-Leavittsburg Rd, Leavittsburgh, OH 44430) to paddle back down to Canoe City on the Mahoning River. This section is scenic, and is about a 3.7 mile, flatwater paddle, with easy access ramps to the river at both ends.

We’ve change the river section from below the dam - like we did last year - to above the dam. Unfortunately, the path down to the put-in below the Leavittsburg Dam has deteriorated, and in it’s present state, would make accessing the river even more difficult than in years past. Bring your thoughts and suggestions about possible ways we could rehab the access path, as well as other discussion points for the meeting.

Please post if your coming, so we can plan supplies accordingly.

Planning to be there for picnic and meeting, but not for paddling. Will bring a watermelon. Apologies for the late notice.

Default Thanks for the picnic!

Many thanks to Jody and Mark Vallecorsa for all their hard work to put together a very enjoyable club picnic at Canoe City. It was obvious that they did a lot of planning because it was so well set up and organized. They also managed to order some terrific weather. Thanks again, Mark and Jody!

Default Picnic Review

Picnic Review,

What a nice day with temp in low 80's and clear. Lots of good food with a big selection.

We had a total of 36 show up for the picnic.

The only major thing during the meeting was the voting for the Cuyahoga Trip and using Camp Hi for our shuttle in October.

Pete has put in a lot of work and got prices. It will be $10 person & there gear. In February we voted to have the club pay half and members pay the other half, but we didn't know the cost at that point.

We had a 19-4 vote in favor of having the whole shuttle paid by the club.

So the October Camp Hi trip is a free shuttle to all members.

We are also going to looking to see what the club can do help with better signs at Canoe City or even a bigger project of helping the launch area on the back side of Canoe City.

After the meeting we had a little mix up on the shuttle and that was my fault. At first it looked like we would do our normal set up.

The Mahoning River Adventure had some down time at the same moment. I mentioned if anyone would like to use them we can.

12 of us used the shuttle service and others did there own shuttle.

We had 19 boats (20 paddlers, 1 doggy) Launch from Swift park and headed down stream. About half way we met up with the group who paddled up stream from Canoe City. Making a total of 26 boats (25 Kayaks, 1 Canoe)

Afterwards many of us stayed and relaxed and finished up the left over food.

Over all a great day with great friends.

Mike Danko
