Default Black River Trip (Aug 26, 2018) has been changed. See new posting.

This was an interesting paddle a couple of years ago however after we did a scouting trip we found the water conditions had changed. We talked to Black River Wharf folks who told us about the black cormorants that were taking over the heron rookery. They literally white-wash the trees and banks with poop and kill the vegetation. The herons are being pushed out. The local folks are hoping for some "intervention" to remove the cormorants...but that is complicated and may take some time to address the problem.

Another issue we found was the thick scum on the water in some areas. This time of year there is no flow of water so this is essentially a lake. Without much rain this summer the floating debris and algae have not gotten washed away.

K & C decided that we really did not want to paddle there (at least not right now) so will replace it with another event. Another club member Judy S. did paddle there recenty and pretty much confirmed what we found... yucky!

We will keep this trip in mind for some other time.

Details for a different kind of paddle will be posted shortly. Stay tuned.....
