Red face Whitewater Ducks

On Sunday K & C took a two hour walk along Mill Creek in the MetroPark. Actually, we used snowshoes as the loosely packed trails were rough and uneven. The creek was flowing pretty fast with lots of floating ice in the moving water.

We were downstream of the Cohassett dam when I spotted a pair of Mallards coming downstream in the swift water. There were some class 4-5 (duck size) waves. They were up and over the waves and then would pull into an eddy for a break. Then back out again. After a hundred yards or so there were some really big class 6-7 waves. The ducks floated right up to them... and flew over, landed and then continued on. We laughed and remarked that we wanted to see Mike pull off that maneuver!

A while later we were at the dam looking down at the river. Two more pairs of Mallards flew up stream, landed and began the float down through the rapids. I think this was the most fun they've had for a while. Who knew we had Whitewater Ducks!
