Back in the day there used to be some great writing posted on Boatertalk, all about paddling. Here's a little tidbit that I think I can post with no problems:

Paddlers 23rd Psalm

The RIVER is my shepherd; I shall not want.
She maketh me to float down the blue waters:
she leadeth me beside the still eddies.

Yea, though I paddle through the shadow of Mather Gorge,
