Chilly Chili Paddle
Mahoning River Chilly Chili Run- Canoe City
When- Sunday December 10th Where-Canoe City Metro Park 107 N Leavitt RD, Leavittsburg OH 44430 GPS 41.241135, -80.881393 Time-11 AM You know it is December when it is time for the umpteenth annual Chilly Chili Run. Last chance for all you canoeist and kayakers "nuts” to get out for one last official trip before the end of the year. We will gather at the CANOE CITY METROPARK starting around 11am and set up the area for our chili feast and get a fire going. After setup we will head up to Swift Metro park for the 3.6-mile flat water paddle to Canoe City for the chili and other goodies. Members are always welcome to do a up and back from Canoe City if they don't want to do the shuttle. If it is extremely cold like last year them will do just an up and back for safety. Hope to see a good turn out for a fun event. We will our fourth and final short meeting after the paddle. Mike Danko

Sunday
Cold and windy. Four of us did a up and back, not a good canoe paddle day because of the wind. Sue brought her Sloppy Joe mix and there was lots of junk food, so I was happy. I was not cold paddling but trying to get out of the boat was something else, as Rich had to pull me out. Good to get out and enjoy the fire and friends. Thanks to everyone who help to make this outing fun.

review
What a great day that was chilly with some strong winds. (High of 32) Smaller than normal turn out. Total of 17 showed up for the event.
We had 6 crazy paddlers, Jim, Stan, Mark V, Ron, Jessica & Myself. We made it up to eagle creek were the canoe broke up the ice for about 20 yards but then it got to thick. We went up the Mahoning a little bit and turned back for a nice easy paddle with the wind at our backs. Once we arrived we had great food with chili, sloppy joes, sandwiches and tons of snacks. I arrived about 10:30 am and was the last to leave at 4pm. Great event to end the year on. Thanks to all who came Mike Danko
