Ed, Google Maps showing launch as permanently closed (see screenshot attached). Probably just a mistake but wanted to point it out just in case.

The question about closure of the Penn Avenue access came up on this trip two years ago when Bob K found a ‘temporarily closed’ notation on Google Maps. I contacted an officer with the PA Boat Commission who told me that the access was open. So we ran the trip without any problem in 2022 and again in 2023. Has anyone been there lately?

OK to use West Middlesex access on Shenango
I phoned the Pennsylvania Boat Commission today to ask if the West Middlesex boat launch was closed. An officer with the commission called back later, left a voice mail, and said that we are allowed to use the launch.

Thank you jp
I am unable to paddle, cut my hand really bad and can't hold a paddle properly.

I'll see you on Sunday. It may be a bit damp, but it's a water-sport.....

It may be a little rainy with temps in the 50's at start time. Cold weather precautions should be used, as water temps are low also. At least some rain gear and a change of clothes in a dry bag.
The river is fairly low right now and there are no rapids to speak of in this section. the biggest challenge is maneuvering around strainers. Should be a pleasant paddle as long as the wind is calm. (fingers crossed!)

This is Brenda, checking in. Was planning on doing paddle but it’s thundering and heavy rain most the day so letting everyone know I am canceling coming. Was going to catch a ride with Dave Manuvich and he is passing due to rain also.
Miss you all paddle buddies. See you soon |
