Default Allegheny River Outing -- July 23 and 24

I cannot attend the planning meeting on 23 May 2021, but want to be sure that you all know that this 24 July paddling opportunity on Allegheny River is still ON.
Saturday 24 July, leaving from my cabin by 10am. Paddling approx 11 miles to Tionesta. See more details below. Note that you may arrive on Friday evening (23 July) or Saturday early. You might also consider staying Saturday night since I will be there the whole weekend.
If I can figure out how to post images, I will post a picture of my cabin so that you recognize it from Riverview Drive (official address on Google Maps is 24 Riverview Drive.) Turn off Route 62, 4 miles south of Tidioute. Bronzeback Lane (a rather rough road) goes down the hill and meets up with Riverview Drive - turn left at the bottom of the hill to reach my cabin. You can also take Terrace Lane that is a bit farther south, turning right at the bottom of the hill and also some rough spots! -- Millie Sass
Please call 412 251 6689 and leave a message if I don't answer.

See LOGISTICS and more information below:
I am a relatively new member of TCT, so bear with me as I try to post information about this anticipated outing in July 2021.
WHEN: Friday 23 July for early arrivals and Saturday 24 July for other arrivals and the river trip itself.
WHERE: Starting 4 miles south of Tidioute bridge on the east shore; launching in front of my cabin. You can find the location on Google Maps: 24 Riverview Drive 16351 (It's a little tricky to find from Route 62 and the old dirt campground drive can be a challenge if it is muddy. I can send out the lane that I prefer to use to get down the hill from Route 62 as the time approaches)
TIMING: Shuttle leaving my cabin at 8am, heading down to Tionesta lighthouse. Launching from my cabin at 10 am on Saturday 24 July, passing Hickory bridge - maybe stop for lunch there (4 miles), take out beside Tionesta lighthouse. That should be a total of 11 miles. I want to be on the water by 10am on Saturday 24 July because the wind can be a nuisance if we start later.
LOGISTICS: You can arrive on the evening of Friday 23 July or early (no later than 8am) on Saturday 24 July in order to shuttle vehicles. I can offer some accommodation for Friday night -- nothing fancy. There is a canoe shed that can be emptied out to sleep a few and I have a 3-person tent. My lot is 1/2 acre, so there is room for a few trucks, RVs, and tents. There is also a pull out settee in the cabin that can be used.
FEATURES of my cabin: electricity, one flush toilet, shower, fridge, old fire-ring of sorts. There is running water, but I do not drink it. You will want to bring water for drinking and cooking if you plan to make breakfast.

Note that I will keep and eye on the level and speed of the river. As you know, sometimes the Kinzua Dam discharges water or sometimes we get a lot of rain that can make the river dangerous.

As we approach July, I will ask people to let me know if they plan to attend by calling me and talking about arrangements. Millie Sass: 412 251 6689

Default Hello Millie

Dustin Noel here Burt’s neighbor. My girls and I would love to come up camp out in our tent and paddle that trip. I will have to see how scheduling works out for those dates. Count us in for now then when we get a little closer we will have to make sure I’m off work. Thanks

Dustin - great to hear from you. Let's hope we have some nice river in July. I thought it best to get word out early since summers get filled up very quickly. -- Millie

Mike - Thanks for the note. I'm anxious to get on the river. Hope to get up to Tidioute soon. It's time to check for winter wear and tear and to get ready for another great summer. -- Millie
