Red face Recreational Dam Release 7/21/12

The Mahoning Dam on the Mahoning Creek, east side of Pittsburgh is having a release on saturday July 21. This is the nicest II creek I ever been on. Nothing scarry but it drops very nice, not much development just trees and laurel. I did it with Paul this spring at 420 cfs and was impressed and they are saying 600 cfs release. picture the Little Beaver if it had more gradient. This should not be missed. This run would be suitable for open canoes and kayaks an advanced beginner run, you will probably have to bail. I going to give up a trophy at kayak race for this, it is that good. If you want to come call me 724-513-8109

Hi Debbi, I am most definitely interested in this run, as an open boater I'm always up for a challenge. As far as a time and a meeting location what were you thinking?

Would love to go, but I have to work in the morning in Ashtabula, then I am going camping.
Please let us know how it is, someday so I hope to join in on that creek

Default mahoning creek

I'll be going but I think I need to increase that float from 5.5mi to 12 by paddling on to rte 66 if possible. Little Beaver has bigger drops {11-12ft per mi} but Little Mahoning is more consistent{10.5-13ft per mi}. I think given a chance it may become a club favourite.

Default Sounds nice

Sounds like a fun little trip. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it -- signed up for a stand-up paddle boarding class with my son. At least I'll be on the water!

Hope you all have a good run! Maybe next time for me....

Deb,
Is there an email list to receive notice of releases? How frequent are they and how much advance notice is usually provided? Can't make it this weekend, but it sure sounds like a nice stream.

It would be nice if we could add this to our trip schedule next year.
