Default Mahoning River 10-22-23

Fall Color Run Part II

Mahoning River Lowellville to Coverts Crossing ( McKinney Russell Boat Access Area )
Trip leader Mike Danko
When-Sunday October 22nd
Where-Lowellville WaterFront Park W Water St, Lowellville, OH 44436
GPS 41.037384946092715, -80.53821058779188
Time 11 am
Class I & II Rapids
8.5 Miles long

This section has two main rapids and a bunch of little riffles.
Once we launch we will quickly come to a class I+ rapid called wing dam rapid; but it is an easy straightforward rapid. Once we hit the Island right after wing dam rapid we may want to portage a couple hundred feet around and get back into continue the paddle if it is really low water level
The second is just past the 224 bridge, we call it Radio Rapid (ask Ed Ribgy why) There is a tree off to the right in the rapid will have to go straight through or a little to the left to avoid it.
Make sure to pack a lunch.
Please post if you are planning on coming or text me 330-766-3129

I'm looking forward to another great paddle with our club Sunday. So far the weather looks like it will be cooperating. And even when it doesn't, we still have a great time. Turnout has been light the past couple trips. Don't be "fair weather friends" Come out and join us for one of our favorite fall paddles.

I'm going tomorrow. I'll be there with my 16' 4" Old Town Canoe. Kayaker's better show up!

I will have another rule to offer for canoes vs. kayak boat counts.

Default Can’t Make It

Mike and fellow paddlers,
I’m not going to be able to make today’s run. I had a lot of wrist pain and weakness over night and still have it this morning. Hope everyone has a great day on the water.

Five Kayaks and Solo Canoes made the 8.5 mile journey down the Mahoning River from Lowellville to Covert Crossing. We had a little drizzle and a little wind at first but it cleared up. Everyone made it through* the ripples and rapids with no problems. Ended up being a beautiful day on the river with great friends. Thanks to Bob Danko for helping with the Shuttle. Thanks again to all who cameMike Danko
