River Fest June 7th
Mahoning River Fest-Trip Leaders Mike Danko & Friends of the Mahoning
Time River fest is from 12-4pm I will be there at 10:30 to unload and help others unload. Place- B & O Station 530 Mahoning Ave Youngstown, OH 44502 Calling all members & CANOES for help with the 3rd annual River Fest. Last was our first time with it and it was a big success. This is an opportunity to do what the original member of this club wanted to do. Make the public aware of the Mahoning River and to show how fun paddling can be. For the second year we will be giving Canoe rides to the general public once they sign our waiver and get fitted for a life vest. Last year we gave roughly 130 canoe rides and this year could be bigger. Hear is what we need- 1) All Canoes possible with a member who can control the canoe with people who might no be as experienced. 2) Members to help work the dock. Help guest in and out of the canoe?s and keep the line moving. 3) Members to work our table (hopefully we can use Rich and Patty Tent again) 4) Please bring extra Life Vest for the Public and Kids Life Vest if possible! Like last year Jessica is putting together a slide show on her lab top to help show what we do as a club. If we have enough volunteers to help with those Four things then we might try to add an event. I was thinking we could let the public try a kayak. What would work is if we had extremely easy rec kayaks available to try. Each kayak would have a TCT member assigned to that demo kayak and would paddle next to the guest and go over basics of kayaking and together paddle up to the West Ave dock and back like the Canoe Rides. Please email me at my email or the newsletter email and let me know what you would like to volunteer for. This a chance to look good in the public eye and to help promote our sport and river we love. mfdanko99@yahoo.com or 330-766-3129 tctsnewletter@gmail.com |

Looking forward to Riverfest, giving canoe rides, and converting the masses to single-blade paddlers!

Thanks Mike. As you pointed out the canoe rides were very popular last year.
Unfortunately I won't be able to help give rides this year due to my back. I might just take about five vicodon on Sunday to get that new kayak wet. It's driving me crazy not being able to get out on a run. |

That's good.
If you want, we could allow participants to pilot their own canoe. As in one of ours. You could use mine if we could find a way to get it there. My truck is still not running. You could use my kayak too. Maybe have a volunteer in a kayak or canoe hanging out upriver somewhere if they need help. I have four orange life vests I could bring too if you think you could use them. |
