Talking Little Beaver Creek

Little Beaver Creek- is my favorite run of the year. I grew up on this section with my grandfather who is a former TCT member.
The lowest we will paddle this section is 3ft at the USGS gauge by Grimms Bridge. Current reading at 5:30 Monday is 3.78 ft. @ 463 cfs

April 27th Trip Leader Mike Danko

Place- 12905 Sprucevale Rd, East Liverpool, OH 43920

(Beaver Creek State Park Primitive Campgrounds)

Sprucevale Rd also goes by County Rd 428

GPS location is 40.70586, -80.580351

Time- 10:30 am

We will paddle from Sprucvale to the Lock 57 Community Launch in Ohioville PA.

This section is about 12 miles, but with the current it isn’t a hard 12; it is a fun 12 miles.

Beaver Creek is known for its many class I riffles and two class II rapids as well as the scenic views.

Right after the St Rt 170 Bridge is the first class II rapid. The second is after grimms bridge called dead mans curve.

I advise everyone to bring a skirt to help stay dry and pack a lunch as we will stop near the middle to relax and stretch.

Thank you to JP and Dustin. At this time we will assume we will portage around a tree at the S turn down river of Sprucevale.

The blue marker is the launch at Sprucevale. The red marker is the location of the portage.

These are the trees in the water. The view is on the far side of the curve, looking up river.

Many thanks to Mike Danko for leading 23 paddlers and 1 pooch down Little Beaver Creek and for ordering up absolutely perfect weather. We even saw two immature bald eagles. There was a little carnage, but nothing serious and I think everyone had a great time, although a couple more inches of water would have been nice. We had four canoes, one dog-bearing SUP, three Go Pro cameras, and 18 of those, uh, ya know, 'other boats.' ;-) Great to see such a nice turn out.
