Default Niles-to-Girard Paddle

Jessica and I, like no one else, were disappointed that we had to cancel the Niles-to-Girard paddle yesterday...especially when the day (until about 4:30) turned-out to be good paddling weather. But at 8AM when we had to start notifying volunteers, the media, and paddlers... when we combined the possibility of thunder and lightning, the expected number of paddlers (especially beginners), the paddling time, and the few places along that route to escape thunder and lightning, we thought it best to be "safe rather than sorry".
We regret the disappointment.

We've had to cancel a few trips this year, and while that is often a disappointment, I am glad that we have a club that takes time evaluate the risks and make safe decisions.
