Red face Mahoning River Oct 19th

Mahoning River: Lowellville to Edinburg PA

Trip Leader- Mike Danko

When-October 19th

Where- 30 E Water St, Lowellville OH 44436

GPS 41.035589,-80.534123

Time-11:00 am

We return to our home river for what has been a great section in the past. For this 9 mile paddle we will launch from Lowellville and on our way to Edinburg we will encounter two class 1+ rapids and a couple of riffles. The first rapid is right after we start in Lowellville and the second rapid is just past the 224 bridge in PA.

This will be the second year that we will enjoy the trestle being removed from the river. Pack a lunch as we will stop mid way for lunch.

We will take out under the Coverts Crossing Bridge in Edinburg PA.

Hope for a nice turn out like years past.
Mike Danko

Side note- After the paddle I plan on eating dinner at Melillo Tavern. Same place were the club had dinner after the Youngstown run in July.

Any questions please fill free to call or email me

Default Beautiful Trip!

Many thanks to Mike Danko for leading the trip from Lowellville to Edinburg on the Mahoning. The day was gorgeous and we had a decent water level (3.26 on the Lowellville gage), good current and even a tailwind. We were all a little surprised that only six paddlers–Mike, Jess, Sue, Ron, Ed, and JP–in three canoes and three kayaks made the run, although Ray showed up at the put-in to say 'hi' before going to work. We covered the nine miles in about three hours and gathered at Melillo's afterwards to swap paddling lies, help the Lowellville economy, and get a jump on talking about next season's trip schedule. It was a great day to be on the river!
