Talking 4-2-23 Grand River

GRAND RIVER CANCELLED DUE TO HIGH WATER
As of 4:30 pm the Grand river is at 6.23 ft and rising.
I thought about moving the paddle to the Mahoning River and doing Struthers to Hillsville but the Mahoning is also rising and is at 4.99 ft in Lowellville. With all the wind damage I don't want to do the upper mahoning until we can scout it for how many trees have come down.
Sorry to Cancel two weeks in a row but I am going to play it safe.

I really want to go on this one. Starting to get concerned about the water level though. What would be the no go level? Was 4.3 and climbing at 9pm Friday nite. Game day call?

I want to do this run also. American Whitewater lists 2500 cfs as an upper limit. This translates to somewhere around 5.1 feet. Looks like flow may be peaking this morning around 3250 cfs? How much it drops by Sunday is anyone's guess, but National Weather Service stream prediction gives it a 25-75 percent chance of dropping to around 5.3 by noon tomorrow and continuing to fall if I read the graph correctly.

Default What to do???

I am watching the levels like a hawk and thank you to JP for the finding the graft of the grand prediction. Never seen that before.

Looking over my notes in 2019 the club did the grand at 5.4 ft
In 2010 we did it at 6ft but from Hidden valley to mason landing.

Not sue what to do? Thinking of cancelling.
OR
Looking at moving the Paddle to the Mahoning and going from Struthers to the Hillsville launch. a 6 mile trip.

Or Canceling and doing a side paddle on beaver creek or Neshannock Creek.

I just want to paddle somewhere tomorrow!!

Looks like the National Weather Service prediction has changed to over 6 feet for much of tomorrow. That line of storms that just dumped more rain probably caused an uptick in the prediction.
