Default Old Woman Creek Huron, Oh

Has anyone in the club ever paddled old woman creek in Huron, Oh?
Its a fresh water estuary and game preserve. It boasts a tidal beach that is sometimes underwater and sometimes expoesed. And its reported to be loaded with wildlife No shuttle rquired and seems to be a little under a 2 hour drive from the Youngstown area.
I can bring trailer and drive if anyone is interested in going one of these open Sundays on the schedule. But id definetly want to scout it out for a future club paddle it seems an ideal location.

Default

I paddled it in the late 1970s before it was designated a national estuarine research reserve. But I have very little recall other than it being flat water, at least the section that we paddled which I think was from Route 2 to the mouth of the creek where it enters Lake Erie. Also the location of the mouth of the creek would shift slightly depending on the dynamics of Lake Erie water level and longshore currents as I recall.

It is also a state nature preserve and requires an access permit to paddle it. As a protected area, it would probably be a beautiful place to paddle.

Default access permit required

K&C paddled here a couple of years ago (pre-covid). We signed up with one of the guided tours. Very nice especially if you have a guide to tell about the area.

At that time you had to get a permit to paddle here and they only gave out a small number for any given day. This info is probably online... or give them a call.

The estuary might not accommodate a club trip but you could always ask. The rules could have changed. ---KenM
